The Indian Sailor’s Home and the Indian seamen’s Hostel managed by the Society have continued to provide the largest accommodation to seamen in the country. Amenities to seamen were improved and increased considerably from time to time. The Committee of Management meets regularly and guides the Society in the smooth running of these two large establishments. Seamen are provided clean accommodation, pleasant atmosphere and recreational facilities. ISHS is registered as a Company Not for Profit under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956.
The primary object of the Society as mentioned in the Memorandum of Association is to provide for the accommodation, recreation and general welfare of seamen frequenting or visiting the Port of Mumbai and also to provide a refuge for seamen who are ship-wrecked and in distress and generally to protect and further the interests of seamen in such manner as may from time to time appear necessary or advisable. No distinction on account of religious denomination or caste shall be made in admitting seamen to the aforesaid premises and to participation in the amenities offered by the Society.
